About Manus Walsh

Born in Dublin 1940, Manus Walsh has lived in the majestic Burren in the West of Ireland for more than 40 years and has gained inspiration in abundance from this landscape. He produces work of outstanding beauty, fluctuating between styles and genres depending on what inspires him at that particular moment.
In his early career he worked in the field of stained glass design, working for the famour Abbey Stained Glass Studios in Dublin. Fine examples of his work in stained glass can be seen in Galway Cathedral and more recently in St.Johns Church, Ballyvaughan. While the unique landscape of the Burren has been a major influence in his work, he has also been influenced by his travels abroad, especially in Spain and Chile, where he has had numerous exhibitions over the years and produced works that are rich in colour and rhythm. In these paintings Manus contrasts the colourful vertical kaleidoscope of Valparaiso with the dramatic horizontal lines of the Burren.

Manus’s work has been described as cubist, abstract, impressionist, surreal, naturalistic and romantic. He is a leading exponent in the craft of enamel on copper. He works in stained glass, enamel, oils, pastels, gouache, chalk, collage, graphics. As a result, his career has been characterized by an imaginative diversity of subject and technique, an ever-present willingness to experiment with the new or re-visit old ideas.

Manus Walsh’s work is represented in Private Collections around the World – France, Germany, Spain, UK, Chile, U.S.A., Canada, Italy, Scotland.
